The Florida Gulf Coast Railroad Museum, a rolling tribute to the bygone days of rail travel, reopens Saturday after several weeks of renovation to the 6.5-mile track. A spike-driving ceremony at 10 a.m. will officially reopen the tracks and mark the museum's 25th anniversary. The first excursion leaves at 11 a.m. The museum in Manatee County runs train trips on weekends from its depot in Parrish to the town of Willow and back. Regular 90-minute excursions are at 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays, $10 adults, $6 ages 3 to 11. Special events, including a Civil War re-enactment weekend and a World War II re-enactment weekend, are planned through the fall. The museum is behind the post office in Parrish. To get there from I-75, take Exit 224 (Ellenton/Palmetto) and take U.S. 301 north for 7 miles. Toll-free 1-877-869-0800 or www.frrm.org.
