Allegiant Air announced flights Thursday to additional cities from St. Petersburg-Clearwater International Airport in time for the winter holidays. The Las Vegas-based discounter named three Midwest destinations: South Bend, Ind.; Toledo, Ohio; and Springfield, Mo. Allegiant also announced it will fly to Newburgh, N.Y., in the Hudson Valley. Allegiant is selling a limited number of $59 one-way fares. That's the same deal it offered Wednesday for flights to Allentown, Pa., Lansing, Mich., and Rockford and Peoria, Ill. Allegiant focuses on flying leisure travelers from small cities to two major vacation destinations, Las Vegas and Orlando. The Tampa Bay area will become the third destination in November. The carrier doesn't make daily trips on any route. Allegiant's schedule at St. Petersburg-Clearwater International includes four weekly flights to Allentown, three to Rockford and Newburgh, and two to other cities. More than 80 percent of passengers book reservations on its Web site, www.allegiantair.com. Customers can go through a travel agent or the airline's reservations line: 702 505-8888. The number is not toll-free and there is a $5 charge each way to book over the phone. The $59 one-way fares are not available on all flights and must be purchased by Oct. 7 for travel through Jan. 31. After that, the lowest fare will be $79. Flights start to Allentown and Rockford on Nov. 16, followed by South Bend (Nov. 17), Toledo (Dec. 12), Peoria (Dec. 13), Springfield (Dec. 13), Newburgh (Dec. 13) and Lansing (Dec. 14).
