Late lead for Rays, then a loss - again

After reliever Seth McClung blew a 3-1 lead and a save opportunity in the bottom of the ninth inning, the Devil Rays and Carl Crawford, clawed back to go ahead 4-3 over the Blue Jays in the 10th. But Brian Meadows gave up a two-run home run to Aaron Hill in the bottom of the inning, giving the Jays a 5-4 victory.

BUCS BIT

The Bucs' first road trip isn't a bad one: only 406 miles to Atlanta. In fact, the Bucs' travel schedule shouldn't leave them jet-lagged. Counting the preseason and regular season, the Bucs will travel 14,204 miles - 17th in the league. Oakland has it the worst, traveling 30,702 miles for away games, and Carolina has the easiest at a mere 8,966 miles.

thanks, cowboys: Evelyn Wray, 72, is rolling in dough thanks to the Dallas Cowboys. The Arlington City Council has agreed to pay Wray $2.75-million for her house and four acres. Why? Her property is where the Cowboys want to build their new stadium. "I can buy something and stop living in my car," Wray said. "I've been basically living out of suitcases from here to there." Since moving out of her home in March, Wray has been staying with family and friends because she didn't want to make a decision on a new house until she knew how much the city would pay. The planned $650-million stadium is scheduled to open in time for the 2009 season.

CORRECTION

A judge ordered Venus and Serena Williams to turn over their tax returns to attorneys representing promoters who contend they backed out of an exhibition match. A story in Thursday's paper misstated the judge's order.
