ROCKY FACE, Ga. - The Florida men's team shot a third-round 1-under 287 to tie for fifth with Georgia State at the Carpet Capital Collegiate on Sunday.
Florida finished the event 8-under 856.
It is the Gators' second top-five finish in as many tournaments this season. Alabama won the tournament at 23-under 841.
Florida's low finisher was sophomore Billy Horschel, who shot par in the third round to finish tied for sixth at 6-under 210. Georgia's Chris Kirk finished first at 11-under 205.
"We didn't really do anything special today, but we hung in there and managed to put up a pretty good score," Florida coach Buddy Alexander said.
"We let some teams come back on us a little bit, but there are certainly more positives than negatives that we can take from this weekend. A top-five finish against a field this deep is something to be proud of."
Sophomore Toby Ragland was the only Gator in red numbers each day of the tournament, posting scores of 71-70-71 for 4-under 212 to finish in a tie for 11th.
WOMAN'S SOCCER
SEMINOLES EXTEND STREAK: Florida State improved to 6-0 with a 2-1 victory against Florida Atlantic in Boca Raton.
The Seminoles, ranked No. 1 by Soccer America, got a goal and an assist from Iraia Iturregi and from India Trotter. FSU's winning streak is the third longest in school history and the second-longest to start a season.
"India is a big time player," FSU coach Mark Krikorian said. "She has a bright future in front of her. She is going to continue to get better and better. My biggest regret is that she is a senior."
FSU is 34-4 this decade against in-state opponents.
"The first thing is the team winning," Iturregi said. "When the team wins and you score a goal or get an assist, you feel better for contributing to that. Today I was happy to help us win."
Eckerd: Lucrece Laverdure and Stacey Balaam scored goals as Montevallo beat the host Tritons 2-0. Eckerd drops to 1-5-1.
UCF: Sophomore Jessica Bush and senior Holly Gault each scored a goal and added an assist as host Kansas beat the Golden Knights 2-0 in Lawrenceville.
MEN'S SOCCER
UT ROMPS: Ricardo Cardoso scored twice as the Spartans beat Barry 4-0 in Miami Shores for their first Sunshine State Conference victory of the season.
Tampa (5-3, 1-1 SSC) also got goals from Ryan Maxwell and freshman Chad Burt. Ryan Thompson earned his first career win in goal, making three saves.
USF: The Bulls, ranked No. 17 by Soccer America, remained unbeaten in the Big East with a 1-1 tie against visiting Pittsburgh. USF (4-2-2, 2-0-2 Big East) got its goal when senior Sammy Castellanos scored his first of the season, converting a penalty kick in the 61st minute.
SAINT Leo: Lynn's Gabe Taboada scored two goals, assisted both times by Carl Wallace, as the visiting Lions fell 2-0 in Boca Raton.
VOLLEYBALL
FLORIDA FALTERS: Junior Kisya Killingsworth had a career-best 23 kills and 20 digs, but it wasn't enough as host South Carolina handed the Gators (8-2, 1-1 SEC) their second defeat of the season 3-1 (22-30, 34-36, 30-26, 24-30).
Killingsworth became the first Florida player since Aury Cruz on Dec. 14, 2002, to record at least 20 kills and 20 digs in the same match (Cruz had 24 kills and 20 digs against Washington State).
