Woman, 41, is killed in fiery crash

LAND O'LAKES - A Seminole woman was killed Saturday night when her car was struck by a sport utility vehicle that crossed into her lane on State Road 54.

The woman's 1998 Oldsmobile burst into flames, burning her beyond recognition, said Lt. Harold Frear of the Florida Highway Patrol.

Troopers declined to name the 41-year-old victim until dental records can confirm her identity, Frear said.

They said the driver of the sport utility vehicle, 42-year-old Leslie M. Fox of St. Petersburg, was headed east close to the intersection of Oakstead Boulevard when she veered right, overcorrected and crossed the median.

Fox's vehicle went airborne, striking the Oldsmobile, which was headed west.

Fox and her passenger, 31-year-old Mike Anderson, suffered minor injuries.

Charges are pending against Fox, the FHP said in a statement.

The Oldsmobile burst into flames, and the woman was trapped inside, Frear said. Investigators cannot say for sure yet whether the victim was killed on impact or whether her death was the result of the fire, he said.
