Heyward Whetsell has been named vice president of marketing at Valpak, Largo. Whetsell was senior vice president of marketing at Uno Restaurant Corp., Boston.

HEALTH CARE

Dr. Catherine Carrubba is the recipient of the 2006 Distinguished Physician Award from the Air Medical Physician Association (AMPA). The award recognizes the contributions to the air medicine profession and lifetime achievement and service to the air medical community. Carrubba is aeromed medical director at Tampa General Hospital.

John D. Couris has been promoted to chief operating officer at Morton Plant North Bay Hospital, New Port Richey. Couris was vice president of health services and ambulatory care.

INVESTIGATIVE SERVICES

Art Liggio has been named senior vice president of sales and marketing at First Advantage Investigative Services, St. Petersburg. Liggio was director of risk insurance services at CEI Group in Trevose, Pa.

LEGAL

James J. Evangelista has been re-appointed vice chairman of the casualty committee for the International Association of Defense Counsel (IADC). Evangelista is a shareholder and group leader for the health care practice group at the law firm of Fowler White Boggs Banker, Tampa.

Cheryl Thompson has been named a shareholder at the law firm of GrayRobinson, Tampa. Thompson practices in the areas of commercial litigation, bankruptcy and creditor's rights.

MARKETING

Elizabeth Leib has been named creative director at Spectrum Communications Media Group, Oldsmar. Leib was editor of Community News Publications, Land O'Lakes.

MISCELLANEOUS

Vince Caruso has been named marketing director for the Florida State Fair Authority (FSFA), Tampa. Caruso was vice president of marketing and public relations at Spectrum Marketing in Louisiana.

NONPROFIT

Doyle McClendon has been appointed to the board of directors of the Florida Orchestra, Tampa. McClendon is chief executive officer at McClendon Corp., based in Virginia.

REAL ESTATE

Trey Carswell has been named senior associate at Trammell Crow Co., Tampa. Carswell was associate director of industrial services at Advantis, Tampa.
