Sports enthusiasts can register for fall activities

SEMINOLE - Now that fall is nearly here, it's time to venture out of the air conditioning and get active. Seminole offers plenty of recreational activities to choose from. Saturday is the last day participants can register for a new Frisbee league, men's basketball, and racquetball tournaments for men and women at the city of Seminole Recreation Center. Frisbee enthusiasts are invited to join the new co-ed Ultimate Frisbee League. Teams will play a six-game regular season, one game each Friday, with two rounds of playoffs. League play begins Oct. 6 with games at 6:30 and 7:45 p.m. The league will consist of four teams of 12 players, ages 16 and older. The fee is $125 per team. The Seminole Men's Basketball League plays Oct. 4 through Dec. 6, with games at 6, 7 and 8 p.m. Teams will play 10 games one each week with one week of playoffs. The league will consist of six teams with each participating in a season-ending tournament. The fee is $375 per team. Seminole's men's and women's racquetball tournament play will run Oct. 3-31. The men's and women's double elimination racquetball tournaments will consist of one round of play each week. Matches will be the best of three games with a fee of $5 per player. All participants must be Seminole Recreation Center members. All league teams must be registered by a Seminole Recreation Center member. If at least half the team's roster is made up of recreation center members, the team will receive a $50 refund. All activities will be held at the Holland G. Advance payment is $12 per person, and registration is requested. For more information, call the Chamber office at 392-3245. - Business Leads & Skills Development Workshop will be held at 7:30 a.m. Sept. 27 at St. Petersburg College, Seminole campus, TLC building, Room 108 - The Chamber will host a ribbon cutting/mixer from 4 to 7 p.m. Sept. 29 at Bonham Dental Arts, 12720 Ulmerton Road. * * * Seminole Community Library events: - A gallery reception is set for 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday featuring the paintings of Thomas Murray. The library gallery is open 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Thursday; 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday; and 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. - The Friday afternoon Classic Movie Matinee for adults is scheduled for 1 p.m. Fridays. This week's showing is The Cheyenne Social Club. - The Family Movie Series is scheduled for 2 p.m. Saturdays with screenings of films appropriate for all ages. This week's showing is Valiant.
