Duer cashes in on longevity and consistency

Hudson Bowl regular Ed Duer rolled an 800 series on his way to taking the center's monthly Eight-Game Marathon Tournament this past Sunday.

Duer, who has 57 career perfect games under his belt, tossed an 805 and walked away with $500. The tournament format consists of each participant bowling eight consecutive games with a winner-take-all pin total.

"In reference to my overall impression of the tournament, I would say the scores were very good," Hudson Bowl owner Dennis Baldwin said. "The participation numbers are starting to climb again now that the fall leagues are starting up."

September's tournament had 34 entries as opposed to August's 26.

Other bowlers to pitch U.S. Bowling Congress honors scores in the sanctioned tournament included T.J. Webber and Nick Crissanfullio. Crissanfullio threw the only 300 of the day while Webber threw a 298. Webber, of St. Petersburg, competes with only one arm.

PAIR OF 800S: Lane-Glo Lanes in New Port Richey had its own share of USBC achievements this past week.

During the Bowlers' Source League that competes on Thursday, Joe Lavoy and Darin Baginski nailed down the center's only two 800 series.

LaVoy, who has achieved a great deal on the lanes, has many highlights in his bowling career, including winning the 2000 Bowler of the Year Tournament at Lane-Glo Lanes North in Port Richey. He has thrown 24 career 300 games, but he didn't need one to rack up his 813 on Thursday.

LaVoy did notch 11 consecutive strikes to put up a 290 for one of his games on his way to the seventh 800 he has tossed since 2000.

Baginski had a 300 in his 810 series score. A 234-average bowler during the two leagues he competed in at Lane-Glo Lanes last season, Baginski is off to a strong start in 2006-07.

He is maintaining his string of solid scores after a summer where he threw three perfect games and an 800.

The scores came during the Monday Night Businessmen's League he participated in at Countryside Lanes in Clearwater.
