Crafts fest creates Christmas in September

Get an early start on holiday shopping today by attending the Christmas in September arts and crafts festival at the Crystal River National Guard Armory, U.S. 19 and Venable Street. The show will have about 75 exhibitors featuring lots of unique and handmade items. Expect to find home decor, wearable art and costume jewelry. The show also features hourly giveaways, a chance to win a Christmas tree festooned with $10 bills, food, live music and a car show. In other events: - All kinds of fun activities will be held today at the Lakes Region Library, 1511 Druid Road, Inverness. There will be art exhibits throughout the library, a Pilates demonstration at 1:30 p.m., storytelling, arts and crafts projects for children and live folk music by Boone's Fork. Free admission. - Lenny and The Jets perform rock and country starting at 9 p.m. today at Jake's Bar and Grill, 8501 W Miss Maggie Drive, Chassahowitzka. Free admission. Call 382-2427. - The Accelerators, Dunnellon's own blues band, will perform at Softtails's Lounge, at State Road 44 and County Road 486, Crystal River. Music starts at 2 p.m. Sunday and a barbecue is also offered. - Conservation will be the focus of Sunday's Rally For The Rivers, beginning at 2 p.m. Sunday at St. John The Baptist Catholic Church on U.S. 41 Dunnellon, just north of the Rainbow Springs State Park entrance. A speaker will present information about how to protect area rivers. Folk band Jon Semmes and the Florida Friends will perform. - This is the last weekend for Old Wine in a New Bottle, a comedy at the Art Center Theatre, 2644 N Annapolis Ave., Citrus Hills. Show times are 7:30 p.m. today, 2 p.m. Sunday. Tickets are $18. - Stage West Community Playhouse, 8390 Forest Oaks Blvd., Spring Hill, presents the British comedy It Runs in the Family through Sunday.
