CLEARWATER - A day care worker at the Kindercare at 3245 Ulmerton Road was arrested Friday on a charge of aggravated child abuse.

Stacey Jo Doty, 32, of St. Petersburg is accused of breaking the thighbone of a 10-month-old boy, according to the Pinellas County Sheriff's Office.

Kindercare employees notified the boy's parents on Tuesday that he had hurt his leg. The victim's father was told that his son was lying in his crib when he got his leg stuck between the wall and the crib and injured his leg, the Sheriff's Office reported.

A doctor at a local clinic told the parents the baby's thighbone was broken.

During interviews, Doty told detectives she became frustrated while she was changing the baby's diaper. She pushed the baby's leg toward his head while twisting the his leg, the detectives reported.

Doty has been employed at Kindercare since August 2003. The Sheriff's Office is withholding the baby's name in accordance with state law regarding victims of child abuse.

Anyone with information concerning the case can call Detective Cynthia Gibson at (727) 582-6200.
