TALLAHASSEE - Republican Charlie Crist raised nearly $1.2-million in the first full week of the general election campaign, nearly 10 times as much as Jim Davis, his Democratic opponent. The reporting period was for one week, Sept. 9-15, and does not include the estimated $2-million that Crist raised this week with President Bush's help. Crist's advisers have said that he hopes to raise $30-million, including unlimited so-called soft money donations to the Republican Party, for the two-month general election campaign. Details on Crist's latest contributors were not online Friday. According to totals provided by Crist's campaign, he collected $1,053,100 in campaign contributions and received $137,800 in matching funds under the state's public campaign financing program, for a one-week total of $1.19-million. Davis' report, which was online Friday at the state Division of Elections, showed his one-week total of $148,000, which included state matching dollars of $49,000. Davis' latest $500 contributors include former Sen. Bob Graham and his wife, Adele.
