SCORES Central 48, Lecanto 17 Dunnellon 34, Hernando 14 Hernando Christian 34, Canterbury 20 South Sumter 48, Citrus 9 Trinity Catholic 56, Crystal River 0 QUOTABLE "It means the world. You have to win on homecoming." - JESSIE HARTMAN, Central linebacker/running back on the Bears' win over Lecanto. "Next week's game is going to be a tough one, but I am feeling confident. We've seen all the things we can do wrong. Now we have to correct those." - JASON DAVIES, Hernando quarterback on his team's district game against Crystal River. "We played perfect through the first half. But then we had two mistakes in the second half and gave up 14 points, and it took us out of our game plan." - MATT SMITH, Hernando coach talking to his team in the post-game huddle. GAME BALLS Jessie hartman, central: Had a 40-yard return of a blocked punt for a touchdown and scored on a two-point conversion. Duane marks, central: Gained 142 yards of total offense and scored two touchdowns. Dujuan harris, central: Gained 133 rushing yards and scored two touchdowns. On six carries. That shouldn't be legal. lecanto offensive line: Paved the way for 275 yards rushing. ROBERT SMITH, HERNANDO: Senior running back gained 101 yards on 20 carries, yet was visibly upset after the game that his performance didn't result in a win. OBSERVATIONS homecomings and goings: Must have been a tricky week in the LeCours household, don't you think? Father Bob is the head coach at Lecanto. Daughter Courtney is a senior at Central. "It made for some interesting discussion at the dinner table," LeCours said. Courtney got the best of this one. But last year, Lecanto upset Central in its homecoming game. THEIR OWN WORST ENEMY: Hernando coach Matt Smith said after the game that the only thing stopping his team is itself, and it was apparent against Dunnellon. They consistently moved the ball well, finishing with 256 yards on the ground, and until a fumble on a kickoff return in the third quarter, they held Dunnellon in check. "Nobody has really been able to stop us all season, and our defense has been pretty stingy at times, too," Smith said. "But what's been lacking is consistency. We have to do it for a whole game." A LOOK AHEAD: Next week brings a heavy dose of district action, which means Lecanto, Hernando and Citrus need to shrug off their losses in a hurry. Nature Coast faces Lecanto. Hernando hosts Crystal River. Central visits Ridgewood. Springstead visits Tarpon Springs. And Citrus, which has a bye week, gets to sit back and watch.
