Tech Data's new leader puts old one on pedestal

By KRIS HUNDLEY

It's only natural for the new guy to want to pay homage to his predecessor.

But in his recent first interview with reporters, Bob Dutkowsky, the new chief executive at Tech Data Corp., pulled out all the stops when praising the company's departing leader, Steve Raymund.

Dutkowsky credited Raymund, who ran the Clearwater computer reseller for 20 years, with turning an idea into a powerhouse in the industry. For that, he said, Raymund deserves to be put in the pantheon of tech greats.

"There are just a few of those guys: (Microsoft's Bill) Gates, (Cisco Systems' John) Chambers, Raymund," Dutkowsky said. "It's flattering to think I may be able to follow in his footsteps."
