What can I carry on now?

The government is partially lifting its ban against carrying liquids and gels onto airliners, officials said Monday. A total ban on such products, instituted after a plot to bomb jets flying into the United States was foiled, is no longer needed, said Transportation Security Administration chief Kip Hawley.

Beginning today air travelers once again may:

- Purchase liquids such as coffee and water at airport stores, after clearing security, to take with them onto planes.

- Bring toothpaste, lip gloss, shampoo and other toiletries, 3 ounces or less, on board - as long as the items can fit into a clear, quart-sized plastic bag with a zip top. The bags will be screened and returned if they are cleared.
