Park fitness fest is a family affair

SEMINOLE - Families can rise and shine and enjoy a skate in the park on Saturday at the second annual Fit Kids & Families event.
The fitness fest will be held at Walsingham Park, 12615 102nd Ave. N.
Check-in and registration begins at 7:30 a.m., with the first event scheduled for 8:30 a.m.
Fit Kids & Families is aimed at getting families outdoors and participating in physical fitness activities together.
Events will include a kid's duathlon run, bike, run for ages 4 and older, a 1-mile family walk/run and a 1-mile family skate.
On-site registration is available at the park the morning of the event.
The fee is $15 per child, and each registered child will receive a T-shirt, goodie bag and an award for participating.
Adults are not required to register.
"We encourage families to come out and actively participate, and parents accompanied by a child are free," said Lanie Sheets, with the Pinellas County Parks and Recreation Department.
Funding for the event was provided by Pinellas County Parks and Recreation and grants from the Florida Sports Foundation and the Florida Recreation and Park Association Foundation.
"It's a great event and we hope people will come out and take part," Sheets said.

The next planning meeting of Seminole's Pow-Wow committee will be Oct. 4 from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Seminole Recreation Center, 9100 113th St. N, Room 210.

Next week's Kid's Night Out with the Seminole Recreation Department will have a Halloween theme.
"Freaky Friday - Welcome to Hauntsville" is scheduled for Oct. 6 at the Holland G. Mangum Recreation Complex, 9100 113th St. N.
The program starts at 7 p.m. and ends at 11 p.m. and will feature a DJ, Halloween-themed games and prizes and refreshments. The cost is $10 per child.
All participants must have a current Seminole recreation card and be in grades K-5 to participate.

Seminole Recreation is offering a Fitness Fusion class with instructor Maria Namey on Tuesday and Thursday mornings from 9 to 10 a.m. at the Holland G. Mangum Recreation Complex, 9100 113th St., Seminole.
The cost is $4 per class and all participants must have a Seminole recreation card.
The class is one part aerobic dance for increased cardiovascular endurance and one part muscle conditioning for increased strength.

The Seminole Chamber of Commerce is hosting two upcoming events, starting with a ribbon cutting and mixer from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday at Bonham Dental Arts, 12720 Ulmerton Road.
Also, the chamber's 21st annual golf tournament is planned for Oct. 19 at Seminole Lake Country Club, 6100 Augusta N.
The shotgun start is set for 1 p.m.

The Seminole Community Library will show the movie Free Willy on Saturday as part of its Family Movie Series.
The 2 p.m. screening is appropriate for all ages and refreshments will be provided.

The Kiwanis Club of Seminole Breakfast is providing an opportunity for families to reconnect with a Family Fun Fishing Day on Oct. 7, from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. at Taylor Park, 1100 Eighth Ave. SW, Largo.
The event is cosponsored by the Kiwanis Club of Seminole Breakfast, Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, Pinellas County Parks and Recreation Department and Sweetbay Supermarket of Seminole.
Admission is free, fishing poles and bait will be provided and beginning anglers are welcome.
Experienced anglers may bring their own poles if they wish.
Prizes will be awarded to anglers age 14 and under for the first catch, largest fish, multiple catches and more.
