WEEKI WACHEE - Though Central has shown it was the dominant program in Hernando County, the Bears used Tuesday's inter-county match at the Dunes as further proof.
With all four county schools in attendance, Central and its 159 strokes walked away with a 3-0 sweep of Nature Coast (170 strokes), Springstead (175) and Hernando (177).
The Dunes is one of the most difficult courses these competitors will play all season, so the performance of the Bears' top golfer, Alex Coogan, was all the more impressive.
Coogan, the defending Hernando County Athletic Conference individual champion, carded 2-under 34 for nine holes to take first.
"The course was in the best condition I have seen in the two seasons we've played here," Coogan said. "I started this season kind of slowly, but I really feel like things are starting to turn around for me, especially with my short game."
With Monday's HCAC Championship at Seven Hills Golf Course on the horizon, 2005 team title holder Central has the momentum and confidence it needs to think about a repeat.
The wins move Central to 11-2 in dual matches this season. Nature Coast, which finished second, moved to 7-9, while Springstead and Hernando dropped to 2-4 and 1-6, respectively.
