Tiger's schedule: Phil Mickelson is all but done for the year, and Tiger Woods is unlikely to play after this week's American Express Championship until the Tour Championship. If that is so, then Woods will be unable to claim the Vardon Trophy for low scoring average. The four rounds this week and four rounds at the Tour Championship would leave him at 59 rounds for the year on the PGA Tour, one short of qualifying for the Vardon, an award Woods has won six of the past seven seasons. At this point, Jim Furyk, whose adjusted average of 68.92 is more than half a stroke higher than Woods, would win the award. Woods said in a conference call Monday that he is aware he would be one round short, but did not disclose whether he would add another tournament or not.
ALS Research: Bruce Edwards, the former caddie for Tom Watson who died two years ago after battling ALS, will have his name on a new foundation created by Watson and author John Feinstein. Called the Bruce Edwards Foundation for ALS Research, all proceeds to the nonprofit organization go directly to research dedicated to finding treatments and a cure for what is commonly referred to as Lou Gehrig's disease. Watson and Feinstein hosted a fundraiser on Sept. 11, the second annual Bruce Edwards Celebrity Golf Classic, which raised $600,000. Edwards caddied for Watson for the better part of three decades and Feinstein wrote a book about them. For more information, visit www.Bruce EdwardsFoundation.org.

"Somebody asked me the question sometime back - if you played now with the equipment and stuff that they play today, how many millions do you think you'd win? And it didn't take me long to answer it. I said, 'Well, there's one thing, I wouldn't go hungry.' "
