Hitchcock leads USF golf win

MIDDLETOWN, R.I. - The USF men's golf team won the Adams Cup of Newport by one stroke Wednesday, topping the 12-team field with a score of 894.
Bulls junior Tyler Hitchcock was second, one stroke behind Joel Myrick of Southern Mississippi. Hitchcock, the first-round leader, finished at 2-under 214.
USF senior Justin Fetcho was in a three-way tie for third at 1-over 217, his best career finish.
GRADUATION RATES: The NCAA released figures showing more than more three-quarters of college athletes, 77 percent, graduate within six years, a slight increase over last year's 76 percent. The study included 93,000 Division I athletes who entered college from 1996-99. Athletes in 35 sports - 17 men's and 18 women's - were evaluated. Graduation among male athletes increased from 69 percent to 70 percent, and female athletes remained at 86 percent. Men's basketball, football and baseball were the lowest-ranked.
SOCCER: The USF men (5-3-2, 3-1-2 Big East) lost 2-1 at DePaul despite a goal in the 90th minute by Rodrigo Hidalgo. ... Ricardo Cardoso scored twice but the host Tampa men (5-6, 1-4 Sunshine Conference) lost 4-3 to Florida Tech. ... The visiting Saint Leo men (6-4, 2-1 SSC) scored three goals in a five-minute span to beat Rollins 3-2. The game ended with 6:10 left due to a lighting failure.
VOLLEYBALL: Saint Leo (12-4, 3-2 SSC) beat visiting Eckerd (10-7, 1-4 SSC) 27-30, 30-26, 30-21 and 30-22.
