'Real Men' take on comedy Saturday

Expect some rough language and big laughs on Saturday, when the "Real Men of Comedy" take over Tampa Bay Performing Arts Center's Carol Morsani Hall. Here's the lowdown on the trio: Joe Rogan You know him from: NBC's Fear Factor and Newsradio; the Ultimate Fighting Championship broadcasts. What makes him a real man: He's a black belt and national champion in tae kwon do and an experienced Brazilian jujitsu fighter. Might not want to heckle him. But seriously: Rogan's comedy album I'm Gonna Be Dead Someday is wonderfully sick fun, sure to offend almost everyone. A Rogan bit we can print: "I can't believe it's 2006 and pot is still illegal and no one's got a jet pack. That's the government, man. They'll never let you have jet packs and they'll never let you have pot, and they'll certainly never let you have the two of 'em at the same time." Charlie Murphy You know him from: Playing Rick James' nemesis on Chappelle's Show; older brother of actor Eddie Murphy. What makes him a real man: He never played Dr. Dolittle and police never caught him "giving a lift" to a transvestite hooker. Sorry, Eddie. But seriously: Murphy's natural likability has propelled him into numerous upcoming feature film roles. A Murphy bit we can print: "You don't slap a man. I mean, even when slapping was fashionable, you know - in Paris - some guy would come up, whap-whap, 'I challenge you to a duel.' I mean, they would have a gunfight after that! Somebody had to go!" John Heffron You know him from: Winning Season 2 of NBC's Last Comic Standing. What makes him a real man: Beats me. He once was a sidekick to radio host and nutcase Danny Bonaduce, so that's not good. I'm guessing Rogan and Murphy take turns beating him up. But seriously: His live act has won raves, so he might actually be the show's secret weapon. A Heffron bit we can print: "Your dad maybe gave you the birds and bees talk, but you didn't need that. You needed him to explain how to put up with women the other 23 hours and 45 minutes of the day." IF YOU GO Real Men of Comedy appear at 8 p.m. Saturday at the Tampa Bay Performing Arts Center's Carol Morsani Hall. Tickets $39.75-$49.75.
