Couples celebrate decades

Daryl and George Jarrett of Clearwater celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary early during Memorial Day weekend when they visited the place where they married, Whitmore Lake, Mich., and were honored with a surprise party given by their son and daughter.

On Sept. 3, they celebrated locally at another surprise party given by friends from their church, Skycrest United Methodist Church in Clearwater.

The Jarretts were married Sept. 1, 1956, at Whitmore Lake United Methodist Church and came here in 1976 from Ypsilanti, Mich.

George retired as an accountant from Johnson Sails of St. Petersburg, and Daryl retired as the church secretary of Skycrest United Methodist.

They have a daughter, Lisa Garner, and a son, Keith, and four granddaughters, Kate Garner and Mallory, Makayla and Meghan Jarrett.

The Jarretts are active 30-year members of Skycrest United Methodist and enjoy traveling.

Sandra "Sandy" and Ira Carnes of Dunedin celebrated their golden wedding anniversary with a family dinner at the Pepper Mill Restaurant in Clearwater. They were married Sept. 2, 1956, at South Wayne Baptist Church in Fort Wayne, Ind., and came here in 1967 from there.

Ira is a retired service station owner-operator, and Sandra is a homemaker. They have three sons, John, Fred and Tom, a daughter, Susan, and 10 grandchildren.

They are members of Unity Church of Clearwater. Ira is an avid woodworker, and Sandy enjoys reading. Their favorite hobbies are spending time with family and friends and pool parties at their home.

Kathleen "Kay" and John C. Hedrich of Clearwater will celebrate their 60th wedding anniversary next week when they host a dinner party for family and friends at Bellini Restaurant in Dunedin. The Hedrichs were married Sept. 5, 1946, in Cleveland.

They lived in Norfolk Va., and Long Beach, Calif., after they were married before returning to Cleveland. They came here in 1976 from Fairview Park, Ohio.

John retired after 30 years with the NASA Lewis Research Center in Cleveland. Kay owned and operated a hair salon in the 1960s and then worked as a real estate associate.

They have a daughter, Debra Flovin, two granddaughters, Tiffany of Seminole and Brittany of Clearwater, and a great-grandson due next month, who will be named Hunter.

The Hedrichs are active members of Calvary Baptist Church and enjoy traveling throughout the country and Europe.

Clearwater woman celebrates century

Elizabeth Rodman of Clearwater celebrated her 100th birthday Sept. 7 at a dinner with friends and family at Bay Aristocrat Village. Her son, daughter, five grandchildren and two of her 14 great-grandchildren attended.

Her eldest grandson offered the blessing, and her 8-year-old great-granddaughter sang.

Rodman moved to Clearwater in 1970 from Mount Holly, N.J., where she was a teacher for 29 years.
