  • For their own good
Fifty years ago, they were screwed-up kids sent to the Florida School for Boys to be straightened out. But now they are screwed-up men, scarred by the whippings they endured. Read the story and see a video and portrait gallery.

Tonight's games

TONIGHT'S GAMES

All games start at 7:30 unless noted

PASCO (0-5) AT HUDSON (1-4)

THE SKINNY: These teams are a combined 1-9, and yet, can you feel playoff fever in the air? Seriously. Hudson is 5-28 lifetime against Pasco, including a dreadful 20-game losing streak from 1980-2003, but 2-0 the past two seasons.

GAITHER (3-1) at WESLEY CHAPEL (3-2)

THE SKINNY: The Wildcats have lost six straight to Hillsborough County foes, and Gaither has allowed only 25 points this year. A loss all but ends any Wildcat playoff hopes.

MITCHELL (1-4) AT LAND O'LAKES (3-1)

THE SKINNY: The Gators survived Pasco last week, but are flirting with disaster should they turn in another subpar performance. The Mustangs scored 43 points last week and still lost and have now given up 94 the past two weeks.

CENTRAL (3-2) AT RIDGEWOOD (4-1)

THE SKINNY: One of these teams might be overrated - Central's victims have a combined 2-14 record; Ridgewood's have a 2-17 record. Guess we'll find out tonight when the top two running backs on the North Suncoast (DuJuan Harris and Byronell Arline) take the field.

ZEPHYRHILLS (5-0) AT GULF (3-1)

THE SKINNY: So, who saw this coming as a Game of the Year candidate? The Bulldogs have won their past three games by an average of 25 points, while the Bucs have won three straight after a season-opening loss. They scored 53 points against Mitchell last week (which is good if you overlook the 43 they allowed).

BISHOP MCLAUGHLIN (3-2) AT VICTORY (2-3)

THE SKINNY: Victory is the defending Class B champ, which leaves little hope for the Hurricanes to pull off a win. Unless, of course, you want to look at Victory's 3-0 loss to an Auburndale team that has been shut out of every other game it has played.
