Owens incident ruled 'accidental overdose'
Dallas Police say Cowboys WR Terrell Owens did not try to commit suicide two days ago, when he was rushed to the hospital for what he called a bad reaction to a combination of painkillers and supplements.
The Bucs can't go much lower, according to Sports Illustrated's Paul Zimmerman. He ranks them 30th, ahead of only Houston 31st and Oakland (32nd).
OUT OF BOUNDS
NO POINTS, NO SEASON: When the going gets tough? Quit. That's what the Oscoda (Mich.) school district decided after the football team lost its first four games by a combined 164-0. Despite protests from players and parents, the school board canceled the rest of the season for the players' safety. Coach Kyle Tobin defended the decision. "I have 28 years of coaching experience in high school and college," he said. "And I know the difference between a team playing bad and a team that's unsafe." Players said they never felt unsafe. Said board member Neal Sweet: "Seniors, I feel you. There's nothing I can say other than I'm sorry. But you're not quitters. You went out there and did your best."
CRACK SECURITY: Police are looking for a bronze bust of ex-Royals third baseman George Brett missing from the Missouri Sports Hall of Fame in Spring-field. "We noticed it missing (Wednesday)," museum operations director Marty Willadsen said Thursday. "So we think it was probably taken Tuesday or Monday evening."
Glenn White, Dallas Police senior corporal demanding an apology from Terrell Owens and his publicist over claims police prematurely released Owens might have attempted suicide:
"The officers reacted because they were called to this location to do this job. Now they're being put under a microscope by some fancy little football person. Those officers are 10 times better than this man."
With an 0-3 record, a rookie quarterback and a tough schedule ahead, can the Bucs still make the playoffs?
