Founders Day fun runs through the weekend

Along with the usual festival fare, there's a NASCAR racer and teams of men pulling fire trucks.

NEW PORT RICHEY - The 10th Founders Day Celebration continues today and Sunday in Sims Park with live entertainment, arts and crafts, boat rides, a car show, kids' activities and a man-powered fire truck pull competition, plus food vendors and a genuine NASCAR racing car belonging to driver Mark Martin.

TODAY

10 a.m.-1 p.m.: Registration for Sunset Corvette Club car, truck and Corvette show. Call George at (727) 809-0628.

10 a.m.-4 p.m.: Eco-Expo and Plant Sale: advice on plants by Master Gardeners, plus plants, produce, pies, honey and herbs for sale.

10 a.m.-4 p.m.: West Pasco Historical Society's Living History exhibit, slide shows, discussions, historical building.

10 a.m.-5 p.m.: Arts and crafts booths by the Cotee River.

10:30 a.m.-8:30 p.m.: Miss Daisy boat tours on the Cotee River, $7.

11 a.m.: New Port Richey Marine Institute Truck Pull Contest on Grand Boulevard between Peace Hall and the band shell. Call (727) 841-4361, ext. 202 to register. Or register at 10 a.m. on the site.

11 a.m.: The Wayne Pearson Quintet, New Orleans style jazz, Sims Park amphitheater.

11 a.m.-5 p.m.: NASCAR driver Mark Martin's No. 6 Ford Fusion and trailer for photos, plus two virtual race simulators for ages 16 and older only; free.

11 a.m.-11 p.m.: Carnival and midway open.

Noon-4 p.m.: Make-N-Take Scarecrow for $5; pumpkin painting for nominal fee; other fun stuff for kids.

1 p.m.: Special narrated slide show by West Pasco Historical Society in the museum.

1-4 p.m.: Acoustic open mic-circle jam-hootenanny led by Pamela Jo Hatley and Keith Hope in Peace Hall.

2 p.m.: Dave Eichenberger's Fools Folly, guitar improvisations, amphitheater.

3:30 p.m.: Car show winners announced.

3:30 p.m.: Midnight Bowler's League, rockabilly and vintage music, amphitheater.

4 -5 p.m.: Folk singer Mike Jurgensen, Peace Hall.

7 p.m.: Late Night Brass, nine-piece band doing the sounds of Chicago and Earth, Wind and Fire, amphitheater.

SUNDAY

10 a.m.-Noon: Unplugged folk-gospel sing-along hosted by Friends of Florida Folk, led by Susan Boyer Haley, amphitheater lawn.

10 a.m.-4 p.m.: West Pasco Historical Society's Living History exhibit, slide shows, discussions, historical building.

4-5 p.m.: Bobby Hicks, Peace Hall.
