Boy found in pool expected to survive

ST. PETERSBURG - A 3-year-old was in critical condition but was expected to survive Friday after a near-drowning in a backyard pool, a relative and police said.

The child was swimming in his grandmother's pool with family and friends at about 1 p.m. Friday, according to St. Petersburg police. After the group got out of the above-ground pool, at 701 43rd St. N, the child walked out of everyone's view, climbed the ladder and got back in.

The child, who was wearing a flotation device, was found floating facedown within two minutes, police said.
