Founders finale packed with events

NEW PORT RICHEY - The final day of the 10th Founders Day Celebration kicks off at 10 a.m. today with a folk and gospel sing-along on the lawn of the Sims Park amphitheater.
Other activities throughout the day include arts and crafts, Miss Daisy boat tours, the Eco-Expo hosted by Master Gardeners, children's activities, live music on the Sims Park amphitheater stage and in Peace Hall, a carnival, contests for dogs and puppies and their human companions and - something new - NASCAR driver Mark Martin's #6 Ford Fusion race car and trailer for photos, plus virtual race simulators for those 16 or older.
And, of course, there will be lots of food, including North Carolina barbecue, funnel cakes, gyros, chicken kabobs, Italian sausage, hamburgers, hot dogs, beverages and other festival foods.
10 a.m.-Noon: Unplugged folk/gospel sing-along hosted by Friends of Florida Folk, led by Susan Boyer Haley, amphitheater lawn.
10 a.m.-4 p.m.: West Pasco Historical Society's Living History exhibit, slide shows, discussions, historical building.
10 a.m.-5 p.m.: Arts and crafts booths by the Cotee River.
10:30 a.m.-8:30 p.m.: Miss Daisy boat tours on the Cotee River, $7.
11 a.m.-5 p.m.: NASCAR driver Mark Martin's #6 Ford Fusion race car and trailer for photos, plus virtual race simulators for those 16 or older.
Noon-4 p.m.: Eco-Expo and Plant Sale: advice on plants by Master Gardeners, plants, produce, pies, honey and herbs for sale.
Noon-4 p.m.: Make-N-Take Scarecrow, $5; pumpkin painting, nominal fee; other children's activities.
Noon-9 p.m.: Carnival and midway.
1 p.m.: The Rick Dahlenger Trio, classic jazz standards, amphitheater.
1-4 p.m.: Acoustic open mike/circle jam/hootenanny led by Pamela Jo Hatley and Keith Hope, Peace Hall.
2-3:30 p.m.: Mutt Maze for dogs; Most Fetching Founders Day Frock for dogs; prizes, by Orange Lake.
3 p.m.: Julie Black, "Angel for Blues," blues and jazz, amphitheater.
4-5 p.m.: Bobby Hicks, Peace Hall.
