Hernando High events celebrate homecoming

Hernando High School will hold its homecoming Oct. 23-28. Activities on Oct. 23 include an afternoon auction and an evening bonfire. On Oct. 24 there's a hypnotist in the theater and a treasure hunt in the evening. Oct. 25 offers an early release for students, a DECA car show at the bus loop, celebrity boxing in the evening and movie night in the theater. The evening of Oct. 26 features a "GROWL" with fireworks at the stadium, while Oct. 27 brings the parade at 1 p.m. and the football game at 7:30. The dance is at 8 p.m. Oct. 28 in the gymnasium.

Challenger workshops to help parents, teachers

The fifth annual Parent Institute is Oct. 24 at Challenger K-8 school at 6:30 p.m. Workshops include brain training, FCAT, discipline, learning styles, mental health, nutrition, drug and alcohol abuse, Internet safety and more. Registration begins at 5:30 p.m. and a complimentary sandwich dinner is at 5:45 p.m. Exhibitor booths will be available at that time. Registration deadline is Oct. 17. College night at Hernando High is 6 p.m. Oct. 16 in the gym. Seniors and their parents can learn about financial aid, applications, choosing a major and more.

Gulf Coast Academy seeks help with box top program

Gulf Coast Academy is asking for parents and families to help with their "boxed top campaign." If you'd like to help, go to the Internet, logon to www.boxtops4education.com/index.aspx and click the "login" link. Then click "support your school and sign up now," select "GCA" from the list and complete the form. Gulf Coast will also accept empty printer ink cartridges if you drop them or send them to the school.

Springstead High sets advisory council meeting

F. W. Springstead High School will hold its next School Advisory Council meeting at 6:30 p.m. Oct. 10 in the media center.

Gang awareness seminar at Brooksville school

At West Hernando Middle School, the PTSA has a gang awareness information session for parents at 6 p.m. Oct. 19 in the media center.

County launches search for school superintendent

The Hernando County School Board is conducting a nationwide search for a superintendent. Students, parents, teachers, staff, business partners and community members are invited to contribute suggestions for criteria to consider when hiring.

Special postal deliveries at Chocachatti Elementary

Parents of Chocachatti Elementary students can write encouraging letters to their child through the school postal system. The front office will provide a stamp and their post office will see to delivery.

Adult education, GED evening classes offered

Adult education and GED classes are now available evenings at Nature Coast Technical School. Sessions have already begun for this term, but information is available at 797-7091. Fees are moderate.
