N.C. State's Amato will try to quiet critics
Coach Chuck Amato, above, has a 48-30 record overall at N.C. State, but has come under fire for some particularly bad losses and his 24-25 ACC record. How can he get off the hot seat? OUT OF BOUNDS
Sir, please step away from the toilet with your hands up. The world chess championships erupted in controversy last week over bathroom breaks. The manager of Bulgarian player Veselin Topalov (wait, chess players have managers?) filed a protest that Russia's Vladimir Kramnik was going to the potty too often. The players' bathrooms are the only areas not covered by video surveillance. The implication was Kramnik, who was up 3-1 in the series (the winner needs 6.5 points), might be checking moves on a computer. The bathrooms were padlocked while the charge was investigated, and Kramnik refused to play unless he was permitted to use the private toilet. He forfeited a game, but after an agreement was made to inspect each others' bathrooms before each game, they played to two draws to make the match 4-3 Kramnik.
Was the five-game suspension of Titans tackle Albert Haynesworth, who stomped on a foe's head causing 30 stitches, proper punishment? Why or why not?
