SPRING HILL - Wearing the same black knee pads and matching black and white Nike socks, Zephyrhills played united on Thursday night.
With their strong passes and several well-timed kills, the Bulldogs swept Springstead 25-17, 25-15, 25-23.
"This is what we work so hard for, to be successful," Zephyrhills coach Tiffany Bibby said. "They're proud of themselves and that's what matters most."
Junior Kayla Wright showed her talent as she helped carry her team with 11 kills.
"It felt good (and) I brought my team up when they were down," she said. "I had a rush the whole game."
Juniors Jessica McCall and Jessica Davis also shined for Zephyrhills. McCall had six kills and three blocks and Davis added seven kills.
Though the game did not end in victory for the Eagles, it was not a sad night for coach Jessica Allnutt and her players.
Despite losing the first two games, Springstead never stopped trying and took a 22-20 lead in the third before falling behind.
It was senior night for Springstead, and after the game the coach said she was pleased with her team.
"I'm very proud of my girls," coach Jessica Allnutt said through tears.
"I've had these five seniors since they were in 10th grade and they've just improved so much."
Though her team has won only three games this season, senior Lindsey Markford was also excited for teammates.
"I really think we stepped it up tonight," she said. "I'm just so proud of all the girls and all of the friendships we've formed throughout the season."
