The Greater Hernando County Chamber of Commerce will offer a public-speaking course for members and the public from 6 to 8 p.m. today in the new Capital City Bank conference room, 14203 Spring Hill Drive, Spring Hill. The course will be led by Vince Vanni, who has 35 years' experience in sales, marketing and public speaking. Topics include dealing with fear, projecting confidence and preparing and delivering a speech. Use of visual aids also will be discussed. Fee is $60 for chamber members ,$75 for nonmembers. The Nature Coast Chapter of the Professional Association of Health Care Office Management will meet at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday at Oak Hill Hospital, 11775 Cortez Blvd., fourth floor, Spring Hill. The meeting topic will be dealing with difficult patients. The speaker will be Marge McQuade, professional development coordinator for Professional Association Health Care Coding Specialists and a certified medical manager. A breast cancer fundraiser will be from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesday at Big Lots, 2384 Commercial Way, Spring Hill; at the Avon Development Center, 3517 Commercial Way, Spring Hill, on Oct. 18; and at Big Lots, 20040 Cortez Blvd., Brooksville, on Oct. 25. Each Wednesday in October, independent sales representative Susan Dixon will sell Avon products to raise money to fight the disease. For each purchase, a free breast health resource guide will be given, and those who make a purchase will be entered in a drawing to win a $75 basket of Avon products. Avon started the Kiss Goodbye to Breast Cancer Crusade and the Avon Worldwide Fund for Women's Health in 1993 and has raised more than $400-million. The Greater Hernando County Chamber of Commerce will have its general election candidates' forum at 6 p.m. Thursday in the County Commission chambers at the Hernando County Government Center, 20 N Main St., Brooksville. Refreshments will be served before and during the forum. Residents can speak with the candidates during a meet-and-greet in the atrium from 5 to 6 p.m. The event will be in a question-and-answer format. Mike Konrad, Hernando County editor for the St. Petersburg Times, and Bob Nolte, editor of Hernando Today, will ask the questions. Chris Pippenger of the chamber will moderate. The forum will be broadcast live on Channel 19 and simulcast on WWJB-AM 1450. It will also be taped by Hernando County Government Broadcasting and played on Channel 19 several times before the general election Nov. 7. For information, call the chamber at 796-0697.
