Wildcat puts to rest SAC mishap

Wesley Chapel's T.J. Adipietro bounced back from a controversial disqualification in last week's Sunshine Athletic Conference tournament to become individual medalist in Monday's Class 2A, District 6 tourney in Ocala.

Adipietro, a junior and two-time district runnerup, led Wesley Chapel to third place and a region berth with a round of 36-37-73.

"I wanted to do everything right (Monday) because my integrity was kind of questioned," Adipietro said. "I always had plans to play the rest of the year. I didn't want to stop after (the disqualification)."

At last week's SAC tournament, Adipietro was considered one of the strong favorites before she was disqualified for incorrectly marking her ball throughout the match. It cost her a first-place tie for the conference title.

On Monday, there was no doubt about the best golfer. Adipietro topped runnerup Lecanto's Caitlin Tripp by seven strokes.

Her performance helped her team qualify for regionals with a 366 total score as Samantha Friese shot 86, Natalie Wells 103 and Brooke Albritton 104.

Host Ocala Vanguard won the title with a score of 355 and runnerup Lecanto had 362.
