Sentiment by the slice

Although I've never been dumped by a Hollywood starlet or been on MTV or in a boy band or been the slightest bit muscular, I feel bad for Nick Lachey. I'm not even sure why. Maybe it's the lunkhead's new album, What's Left of Me, every Kleenexian second of which refers to his divorce from manipulative blond temptress Jessica Simpson. The former 98 Degrees warbler doesn't have a particularly strong voice, but on such orchestrated cheese as I Can't Hate You Anymore and Shades of Blues he sounds genuinely wrecked by his love life.

Since he released the bestselling album, Lachey has proceeded to date a parade of camera-ready hotties who appear to wear bikinis almost constantly. And yet, I bet he'd take Jessica back at the drop of a hat. Why do I think that? Again, I have no idea. But I really need to stop watching so much Access Hollywood.

Nick Lachey performs at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Tampa Bay Performing Arts Center, 1010 N MacInnes Place, Tampa. $32.50-$45.50. (813) 229-7827.
