About 1,700 people formed a sea of pink as they walked in the Breast Cancer 3-Day event on Friday. Walkers smiled and waved at passing drivers on Gulf Boulevard in Clearwater and Indian Rocks Beach before winding their way along Park Boulevard past the cheering station at Seminole Mall.

"Even my oncologist was like, 'I cannot believe you're walking 60 miles,' " said Carrie Marinakis of New Port Richey, who spent Thursday recovering from her latest chemotherapy treatment. "But this morning I woke up and I said it doesn't matter, and I'm doing it. ... You have to keep going. Go, go, go, go, go."

Organizers said walkers and 300 volunteers helped raise $4.5-million for breast cancer research and community outreach. Today, the walkers will cover a stretch from Walter Fuller Park to Sunset Park in St. Petersburg. On Sunday, the main route is from Sunset Park to Spa Beach Park, also in St. Petersburg.
