CONCORD, N.C. - Dave Blaney wound up the winner Friday night at Lowe's Motor Speedway in a NASCAR Busch Series finish that included red-flag stoppages for a scoring glitch and a crash by Carl Edwards and Casey Mears while battling for the win.
Kevin Harvick, who came back from an early tire problem and a lost lap to finish ninth, wrapped up his second Busch championship with four races remaining.
"It's been quite a year in the Busch car and everything happened (Friday) and we still finished in the top 10, so it's been an incredible year," he said, referring to the tumultuous race.
"That was a mess of a race, that's for sure," said Matt Kenseth, who finished fifth. "It was Friday the 13th, wasn't it?"
Blaney fought off Kenseth in a two-lap overtime sprint to grab his first series win in 93 starts since 1998. Kenseth led Lap 202, but Blaney got the nose of his car back out ahead on the final lap and Kenseth spun coming off the final turn. Michael Waltrip wound up second, followed by Stacy Compton.
nhra: Tony Schumacher broke his own Top Fuel qualifying record Saturday, topping the field in the Torco Racing Fuels NHRA Nationals in Dinwiddie, Va., for his 12th No. 1 qualifying effort of the year. His Friday pass of 4.512 at 313.37 mph was enough to fend off rookie J.R. Todd, who ran a 4.528 at 318.39 mph during Saturday's first session. Eric Medlen and Jason Line also secured top qualifying spots in their categories.
