No. 3 Bishop McLaughlin, No. 2 Seven Rivers win

HUDSON - In opening-round action of the Class A, District 4 tournament, third-seeded Bishop McLaughlin advanced to the semifinals with a 3-1 victory over sixth-seeded First Academy. The host Hurricanes cruised through the first two games 25-16 and 25-12 before dropping the third 25-18. They fought off a tenacious Eagles squad with 25-21 victory to clinch. Bishop McLaughlin was led by sophomore middle hitter Kristen Pawlowski, who finished with a match-high nine kills and three blocks, and junior outside hitter Natalie Vanderhider chipped in seven kills. Pawlowski also added seven service points and two aces. No. 2 seed Seven Rivers Christian cruised through their match against No.7 Cedar Key, earning a 25-13, 25-11, 25-9 victory to set up a semifinal at 7 tonight against Bishop McLaughlin. In the early match, fourth seed Hernando Christian scrapped to a 25-13, 26-24, 25-27, 25-23 win against No.5 Meadowbrook Academy. The Lions' rewarded is tonight's 5:30 match against top seed St. John Lutheran, the No. 1 team in the state.
