PALM HARBOR - Northside Christian and Tampa Prep faced each other during the regular season, but the Mustangs were not happy with the result.
At Monday's Class A, Region 5 tournament at Tarpon Woods Country Club, Northside Christian avenged that defeat by taking the team title, with the Terrapins second.
"I'm excited for our team and for those who haven't had to opportunity to go to state," junior Morgan Jackson said.
"We didn't know if we could beat Tampa Prep," freshman Ryan Ashburn said. "But our team played better."
The Mustangs finished with 333 to beat the Terrapins by 19. Both teams advanced to the state tournament.
Individually, Erica Popson of Ridge Community shot the low round at 4-under-par 68. She hit into the water on No. 4 but turned the pitfall into a par.
Popson, who also reached state, said she wasn't surprised with her round, but was very happy.
"It's not something that comes very often," she said.
Ashburn was five strokes back at 73 and Jackson was third at 77.
"My irons were pretty successful," Ashburn said. "I only missed two fairways."
Northside Christian won the state title in 2004 and was fourth last year.
