NORMAN, Okla. - Linebacker Rufus Alexander, Oklahoma's leading tackler, was arrested after a confrontation with police.
Alexander said he was trying to stop a fight early Sunday. He was charged with disturbing the peace and interfering with official process - both misdemeanors - and was released after posting bail.
After practice Monday, coach Bob Stoops said any disciplinary action would be internal.
"Internally we'll do some work with him in some ways unless we find out something different," Stoops said.
Alexander, a team captain and an NFL prospect, told the Oklahoma Daily he was in his car with a friend, Jared Scelfo, when James Wheeler stepped in front of the vehicle. A disturbance followed and police arrived.
"My friend got out of the car and I was stopping him before he did something stupid," Alexander told the student newspaper.
Alexander had seven tackles and a diving interception in Oklahoma's 34-9 win against Iowa State on Saturday.
GEORGIA: Looking to break their first two-game home losing streak since 1995, the Bulldogs will start freshman Matthew Stafford at quarterback in Saturday's home game against Mississippi State, coach Mark Richt announced. Stafford will be making his third start. He also started against Alabama-Birmingham and Colorado when senior Joe Tereshinski was out with a sprained ankle. Tereshinski, who began the season as the starter, has started in the Bulldogs' back-to-back losses to Tennessee and Vanderbilt. Georgia (5-2, 2-2 Southeastern Conference) fell out of the Top 25 with the losses.
N.c. STATE: Quarterback Daniel Evans sustained a concussion but has been cleared to practice and is "very probable" for this week's game at Maryland, coach Chuck Amato said. "I don't think there's a question" Evans will be cleared to play, Amato said during his weekly news conference. The redshirt sophomore was injured sometime during last week's loss to Wake Forest, possibly in the fourth quarter during a rushing play on the Wolfpack's final drive of the game, Amato said.
EAST CAROLINA: Bobby Good - a senior receiver who had taken the lead with big-play threat Aundrae Allison sidelined for the past two games - broke a bone in his left foot during warmups before Saturday's loss to Tulsa, East Carolina coach Skip Holtz said. Good played the entire game and finished with seven catches, but will miss this weekend's home game against SMU. It's unclear how long he will be out. The Pirates adding Good to a substantial injury report that already includes Allison and freshman wideout Jamar Bryant.
