Lions soccer turns in one record after another

Lauren Hudson continues to rewrite the Saint Leo record books.

The sophomore goalkeeper, who notched 43 shutouts in her career at Mitchell High, collected four saves to earn her eighth shutout of the season in the Lions' 3-0 victory over Flagler College on Saturday.

In blanking the Saints, Hudson also earned her 11th shutout in 27 career games, tying her with ex-Lion Amber Ferrol on the all-time list.

And the records keep coming. Before Hudson's record-breaking performance, former Land O'Lakes standout Casie Poyssick had one of her own.

The senior forward drilled home a loose ball in the 98th minute to defeat Palm Beach Atlantic University last Wednesday. The winning goal was Poyssick's 51st career goal, which added to her own record. It also was her second winner in as many home matches.

The Lions (11-2-1, 4-2 SSC) jumped from 24th to 18th in the latest NSCAA/adidas National Top 25 poll. They also are third in the South Region, behind Tampa and West Florida, respectively.

They continue their season this afternoon at 4 p.m. with a Sunshine State Conference game at Florida Tech. Their regular season concludes with a home game Saturday against Barry University at 2.

The game can be heard live on the Internet, just log onto www.SaintLeoLions.com and click the "Listen Live" link.

Men's soccer: The Lions (10-4-1, 4-1-1 SSC) ran their unbeaten streak to seven with a 1-0 victory over Eckerd on Friday. Forward Asmir Pervan scored the Lions' lone goal - his 12th of the season. The senior, third in Saint Leo history in goals (44) and points (102), also leads the Lions in goals and points (26).

Saint Leo has gone 5-0-1 since a 2-0 loss against Barry University on Sept. 17.

Fifth in the South Region, Saint Leo travels to Florida Southern for a game tonight at 7 and wraps up its regular season on Saturday at home against Barry.

Both games will be broadcast live on www.SaintLeoLions.com.

Cross Country: PHCC wrapped up its regular season with a 30-28 victory over St. Leo last Thursday. In the victory, former Gulf runner Danielle Florey earned her first victory of her collegiate career.
