Lecanto High Project Graduation: Lecanto High School has begun plans for the 2007 Project Graduation. The planning committee is organizing events to help raise funds. All donations and money raised go directly toward the project night and the graduates. Volunteers are needed. Events include shows, golf tournaments, a spaghetti dinner/fashion show, silent auction, a tennis tournament, holiday gift-wrapping and raffles. Dyslexia presentation: Superior Therapy Services will present Susan Barton, one of America's leading dyslexia experts and founder of Bright Solutions for Dyslexia, from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday in the Florida Room at Seven Rivers Presbyterian Church. Parents, teachers, reading specialists, school administrators, resource specialists, school psychologists, speech language therapists pediatricians, counselors and psychologists are encouraged to attend. Inverness Primary starts patriotic squadron: Inverness Primary School is beginning a program called the Inverness Primary School Patriotic Squadron. It will support veterans programs and add a memorial to Persian Gulf veterans and active service people to the school's memorial garden. Donations are requested. A plaque on the school's Veterans Wall is available for $100 or more. Also, businesses and/or organizations can join the IPS Squadron, becoming BRAVE Businesses Ready to Adopt Veterans Everyday members. BRAVE members donating $100 or more will have separate plaques. All donations can be brought to the school office or sent to Inverness Primary School, 206 S Line Ave., Inverness, FL 34452.

Mentor training: The Citrus County School District will hold mentor training from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Wednesday at the District Services Center in Inverness. For information or to sign up, call Pat Lancaster at 726-1931, ext. 2205 or 2220.

Child development expert to speak: John Mike, M.D., nationally known child development expert, psychiatrist and author of the internationally recognized Brilliant Babies, Powerful Adults: Awaken the Genius Within, will speak at 6 p.m. Saturday in the Inverness Primary School cafeteria, 206 S Line Ave. His interactive presentation, Parenting for a Better Future, will offer insights into character development in children and adults. The free program is open to parents, educators and interested members. The program is co-sponsored by the Citrus Organization for the Gifted (COG), ComeUnity Montessori School in Inverness, and PAGES (Parents Allied for Gifted Education and Support) of Hernando. Child care will be provided at no charge. After the program, Mike will remain for a book signing and book sale with proceeds to benefit COG.
