NEW PORT RICHEY - Justin Shofner was killed Tuesday afternoon when he was thrown from his Ford Mustang after a three-car collision on State Road 54. He was the second 18-year-old from Moon Lake in three days to die in a car crash while not wearing a seat belt.

Shofner, of 9228 Spare Drive, was driving west on SR 54 about 2:45 p.m. when, for reasons unknown, he lost control and crossed the median into the path of two oncoming pickup trucks, according to a Florida Highway Patrol report. The report made no mention of possible charges against the other drivers.

The crash injured three other people. The other two drivers were transported to local hospitals, while Bobby J. Leclaire, 35, a passenger in one of the trucks, was flown to Bayfront Medical Center in St. Petersburg. He was listed Tuesday in fair condition, which means he was conscious and his vital signs were stable.
