Published October 20, 2006

Hernando (2-5) at Nature Coast (6-1)

Time: 7:30

Last week: Both teams recorded big district wins: Hernando over Lecanto and Nature Coast in an overtime thriller over Citrus.

This week: If Nature Coast beats Hernando, it will clinch its first district title . The Leopards need a victory to keep their playoff hopes alive. Both teams feature speedy running backs who have only recently burst onto the scene: George Fribley of Hernando and Tevin Drake of Nature Coast. But the Sharks have more weapons.

The PICK: Nature Coast

River Ridge (0-7) at Springstead (3-4)

Time: 7:30

Last week: Springstead lost a heartbreaker to Central, giving up two late touchdowns and a decisive two-point conversion. River Ridge lost 49-0 to Tarpon Springs, its third shutout of the season.

This week: Springstead needs help to make the playoffs, but it is a better team than River Ridge.

THe PICK: Springstead

Central (5-2) at South Lake (5-2)

Time: 7:30

Last week: Central showed some grit in a come-from-behind victory over Springstead. South Lake lost to Eustis 39-6.

This week: We get a chance to see how Central running back DuJuan Harris stacks up against one of the top rushers in the state. South Lake junior Jeff Demps has 1,066 yards on 98 carries this season. Demps ran a 10.78 100-meter dash at the Class 2A state track meet last year.

The PICK: South Lake

Time: 4 p.m.
