Arthenia Joyner: For a better state Senate

A Times Editorial
Published October 20, 2006

Arthenia Joyner, 63, a state House representative since 2000, is virtually guaranteed victory, having won the primary. She is capable, protective of minority rights and skilled at working the levers of power. Joyner needs to take a stronger lead on community initiatives. Serving a multicounty district might motivate her to work more closely with local officials. She faces a write-in candidate with no known record. The district covers central Hillsborough, southern Pinellas and northwest Manatee counties. In state Senate District 18, the Times recommends Arthenia Joyner.
