ODESSA - A 53-year-old Trinity man died Thursday evening when his motorcycle collided with a sport utility vehicle.

Douglas E. Ihrig, of 8817 Wavyedge Court, was an avid motorcyclist and married father of one. He died at the scene of the 6:05 p.m. accident. He was not wearing a helmet.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, Silva R. Locke, 48, of 1347 Fussell Hollow Road in Odessa, was driving northbound on Black Lake Road in a 1988 Ford SUV. After stopping at a stop sign, Locke began crossing State Road 54. Ihrig, heading east on SR 54 on a 2000 Duca motorcycle, crashed into the SUV.

Locke, who was wearing a seatbelt, was treated at Bayfront Medical Center. FHP said charges are pending.

Ihrig was headed to the doctor's office, said Kay Wiggers, a family friend. Ihrig rode motorcycles for most of his life, Wiggers said.

Ihrig, an engineer, was married to Eileen, and the couple have a 13-year-old son, Kevin.
