TAMPA - The Spartans volleyball team cruised to a three-game sweep of Lynn (30-10, 30-13, 30-23) Saturday to improve to 24-1 overall, 10-1 in the Sunshine State Conference. Tampa junior Katelen Dixon had nine kills and now has 995 for her career. The Clearwater native needs five to become the 13th player in school history to reach 1,000.
Eckerd: Lydee Benoit had 23 kills as the host Tritons (18-10, 5-6 SSC) beat Nova Southeastern 3-1 (24-30, 30-19, 30-12, 30-27).
Saint Leo: The host Lions (19-7, 6-5 SSC) beat Barry 3-2 (33-31, 22-30, 27-30, 30-20, 16-14).
USF men: Ryan Soroka scored the lone goal as St. John's beat USF 1-0 in Queens, N.Y. The Bulls (8-5-4, 4-3-4 Big East) had a five-match unbeaten streak end.
Saint Leo men: Tommy Poston's goal was not enough as the host Lions (10-6-1, 4-3-1 SSC) lost 2-1 to Barry.
Eckerd women: Seniors Amy Lambert and Abby Roche scored as the host Tritons (5-11-1, 1-6-1 SSC) beat Palm Beach Atlantic 5-1.
Florida Men: Greg Ouellette reached the round of 64 at the ITA Region III indoor tournament in Lexington, Ky. Ouellette and Nestor Briceno reached the round of 16 in doubles.
Florida women: Csilla Borsanyi and Lolita Frangulyan, and Whitney Benik and Nina Suvak reached the quarters of the ITA South Region in Tuscaloosa, Ala.
USF women: Liz Cruz, Shadisha Robinson and Ann-Marie Modric advanced to the round of 16 in singles at the ITA South Region Championships.
Cross country: Tampa men's and women's teams both claimed second-place finishes at the Sunshine State Conference Championships in Sunrise.
Swimming: Tampa men held off Florida Atlantic 136-125, while the women lost 149-108 in Tampa.
