Scratch off lengthy to-do list: name CEO
The folks at Acclaris Inc. have been mighty busy the past few months: moving to a new headquarters in West Shore, opening a call center in Kansas, expanding in India and, oh yeah, getting a new CEO on Thursday. Mark Whittington moved up from chief operating officer to chief executive, replacing John West, who's staying on as chairman. Acclaris, which administers employee benefit reimbursement programs, employs 35 people in Tampa and has big plans. The privately held company says it expects to hit $10-million in revenue next year. Citizens still in Gallagher's sights Who wants the thankless job of run ning cash-strapped Citizens Property Insurance Corp.? Maybe Tom Gallagher does. Maybe. Sort of. Florida's outgoing chief financial officer and failed Republican gubernatorial candidate has repeatedly denied he wants to preside over Citizens when president Bob Ricker quits Wednesday. That didn't stop Gallagher from popping up at the state insurer's board of governors meeting Thursday in Tampa. Citizens has commissioned a formal search for Ricker's replacement, though interim president Scott Wallace tops the list for the $80,000 job. Insurer ordered to roll back rate hike Florida insurance regulators apparently are getting the message that voters are unhappy with their insurance rates. Insurance Commissioner Kevin McCarty has ordered Florida Peninsula Insurance Co. to roll back most of a recent rate increase and revise its business plan. Florida Peninsula Insurance had implemented a 91 percent increase while waiting for regulators to give their blessing. McCarty said the rates can be no more than 25 percent above what Citizens charges and ordered refunds or credits to customers to make up the difference.
