Brooksville residents will vote on three charter amendments approved by the city.

BROOKSVILLE - In addition to one race for City Council, Brooksville has three charter amendments on the Nov. 7 ballot. The amendments were recommended by the city's Charter Revision Committee, which comes up with recommendations every six years, and were approved by City Council. Now it's up to voters. The first amendment deals with situations where the city signs contracts with outside groups, for example, to lease out the Jerome Brown Community Center. The amendment would prohibit the city from agreeing to any contract that called for it to indemnify another group for negligence or take out insurance for the benefit of another group. Currently, elected officials must wait a year before working for the city, but the second amendment eliminates that waiting period - as long as the city manager and City Council approve. The third amendment on the ballot deals with the Charter Review Committee itself. It would require all members of the committee to be city residents.
