TAMPA - Retired University of South Florida professor John Iorio, the father of Tampa's mayor, suffered a stroke Tuesday morning and was being treated at Tampa General Hospital.

"He did have a few funny comments to make today, which I think is a very good sign of progress," Mayor Pam Iorio said Thursday.

In July, John Iorio, 81, was diagnosed with bladder cancer.
