SARASOTA - Jason Taylor is one of the fastest swimmers in the 200-yard individual medley, a chlorinated quadrathlon that requires skill in the four basic strokes: backstroke, breaststroke, butterfly and freestyle. It's a grueling event that can take its toll. But that doesn't slow Taylor. The Newsome sophomore won the event in 1 minute, 58 seconds at the Class 2A, Region 3 meet. Taylor also won the 500 free and swam on the 200 medley and 400 free relay teams, which both finished second. It was enough to help the Wolves win the boys team title, outscoring Seminole 347-293. Leto's Jorge Ospina-Casas won the 100 fly and 200 free. On the girls side, Newsome's Kelli Kyle won the 100 fly and 100 back. Plant's Margaret Anderson won the 50 free. Pinellas County's Northeast and Seminole tied with 309 points to share the girls' team title. Bob Putnam can be reached at putnam@sptimes.com or 727 445-4169.
