Seminole, Northeast tie at meet

SARASOTA - For the past two weeks, Northeast coach Bill Burrows had tapered training for his girls, making them swim less and less but faster and faster.
"It's tough right now because I'm trying to hold back with a bunch of them," Burrows said. "Some started tapering last week, some this week, some next week. We've got all kinds of kids with half-shaved legs."
The strategy, though, is working.
The Vikings won five events and tied Seminole with 309 points for a share of the Class 2A, Region 3 meet at Selby Aquatic Center in Sarasota.
Northeast's big winner was Megan Romano, who won the 100 and 200 free and swam on the winning 200 medley and 400 free relay teams.
The Vikings' other key performance came from Jordan Weber, who won the diving competition despite two broken toes.
The Warhawks were led by Meaghan Thomas, who won the 100 breast and was on the winning 200 free relay.
"We have a lot of depth, but Northeast really swam well," Seminole coach Tom Haight said.
The Warhawks boys took second overall. Seminole senior Andrew Blazuk was first in the 100 free and 100 back and was on the winning 200 medley and 400 free relay teams.
Clearwater's Adam Corbin was the county's other winner in the 100 breast.
