Railroad repair w ill delay daytime t raffic

The Florida Department of Transportation and CSX will repair the railroad crossing on U.S. 41, about 2.4 miles north of State Road 52. Repairs will take place today and Tuesday from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Traffic will be reduced to one lane through the construction zone, with the southbound lane closed today and the northbound lane closed Tuesday. Minor delays are expected.

Smile! You're on Candidate Camera

Kodak and Canon have nothing on this rivalry. County Commissioner Steve Simon and opponent Michael Cox have squabbled over work hours and the Internet in their race for the Nov. 7 elections, so why not photography? Simon, a Republican, toted a small camera after last week's commission meeting, using it to snap pictures of Cox, a Democrat. Two weeks earlier, Cox snapped photos of Simon on the dais that appeared on a direct mail piece to voters. After that meeting, Simon said, he was perturbed from the flashes hitting his eyes.

Light a candle to remember children

The Pasco Chapter of the Compassionate Friends, a support group for those grieving the loss of a child, will host a Candle Lighting Ceremony at 6:30 p.m. Dec. 10 at the Orchid Lake Civic Association, 7425 Orchid Lake Road, New Port Richey. Those who want to remember their children who have died are encouraged to send in pictures of their children by Nov. 10 to be included in a DVD to be played during the ceremony.
