Saint Leo golfers earn first team title

DADE CITY - The Saint Leo men's golf team shot a program-best 884 (299-294-291) to win the first team title in program history at the Saint Leo Fall Invitational on Tuesday. The Lions set a team record for lowest 18-hole score with a final-round 291. Freshman Mark McGuire earned Saint Leo its first individual victory.

UF MEN: The Gators dropped their final-round match to Texas A&M 4-1 to finish fourth at the Collegiate Match Play Championship in Fort Worth, Texas.

SAINT LEO WOMEN: The Lions finished fourth in the Saint Leo Fall Invitational in Dade City with a team total 658 (329-329).

USF MEN: Senior Justin Fetcho claimed his first collegiate individual title at the Sam Hall Invitational in Hattiesburg, Miss., with a two-day 8-under 205.

UM WOMEN: Junior Jessica Steward fired a final-round 70 to finish in a tie for third at the Edwin Watts/Palmetto Intercollegiate in Kiawah Island, S.C.


TAMPA WOMEN: Malana Winskas became the first player in Sunshine State Conference history to be a four-time defender of the year, and a record five Spartans were selected first-team all-conference. Eight Tampa players were all-conference selections.

TAMPA MEN: The Spartans had three players on the all-SSC team. Ricardo Cardoso and Devin Shaw were first-team selections while Ryan Maxwell was named to the second team.

SAINT LEO MEN: Senior Asmir Pervan was named first-team All-Sunshine State Conference.

FSU WOMEN: Three Seminoles made the All-ACC first team.

UCF MEN: Three players were selected to for All-Conference USA honors: forward Zak Boggs, midfielder Cam Jordan and defender Akin Akinrinade.

UF WOMEN: Three players made the All-Southeastern Conference first team: sophomore Ameera Abdullah, junior Stacy Bishop and freshman Lauren Hyde.


SAINT LEO: The Lions (20-9, 7-7 SSC) were swept by Rollins College (18-12, 6-8 SSC) in Winter Park.
